KaisAYR kicked off the tournament with a 2-0 defeat against “Follow the Yellow Brick Road”, the Mansfield IFA team. After a reasonable opening couple of minutes, Brian Cooper took a nasty knock to his foot and had to hobble off for a break, being replaced by AJ. In that time, FTYBR managed to break away and score from the first attack with a driven shot from inside the area.
Brian returned soon after and Pete Noble threatened the goal with a vicious left foot effort that flew past the angle, while Kenny blazed a shot over the bar from three yards out. Mansfield hit a post before the interval as KaisAYR played the game in the opposition half, but couldn’t really get properly going.
The second half was a similar affair, with Brian and Steve Noble passing up good opportunities to play the ball square and set up a goal, while guest sub Davie Rafferty had a good strike palmed over.
Another goal against the run of play finished things off as a FTYBR defender rose above Grammy to head home for 2-0. Late on, Grammy appeared to be caught inside the box, but only ended up with a yellow card for simulation for his efforts and it summed up a very disappointing start to the tournament.
